Students, faculty, and staff at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette can use their school IDs to access Lafayette Public Library’s many resources starting on Monday, August 25, just in time for the start of classes.
The library system has also partnered with South Louisiana Community College to allow its students and employees the same benefit, which will take effect at a later date.
Allowing IDs from the university and community college to work as library cards will provide automatic access to LPL resources to about 22,000 people. They will be able to access not only a catalog of physical and digital materials, but also programs and services, including 24/7 online tutoring, résumé writing and job search assistance, study and meeting rooms, computer classes, art and craft programs, museum passes, study guides and practice tests, Makerspaces, and more.
“The UL population are eligible for a library card by virtue of attending school or working in Lafayette, and many students and staff avail themselves of this benefit. But many do not. By partnering with UL to provide instant access to their faculty, staff and students, the library is publicizing what Lafayette has to offer through its library services and resources and through its many partnerships. We are extending an invitation to everybody at UL to experience Lafayette,” Director Danny Gillane said.
Public K-12 students in Lafayette Parish have had the ability to use their school IDs as library cards since 2018. Lafayette Parish is the first in the state to accept college IDs as library cards.
